Issue/Question
How do I register for the Campus Alert System?
Environment
BHSU Campus Alert System
Cause
I would like to sign up to receive Notifications and Alerts for when there is an Emergency on Campus.
Resolution
Your safety and security is our top priority. That is why at Black Hills State University we have implemented a Campus Alert System to help provide important information in the event of an emergency on Campus. The Campus Alert System is able to provide critical information quickly during a variety of situations, such as severe weather, unexpected closures, missing persons, security concerns, and evacuations of buildings.
Before you're able to receive notifications and alerts from the Campus Alert System, you'll need to sign up and set your preferences for how you'd like to receive them.

Emergency Preparation
Staying informed during an emergency will help keep you safe; but another important aspect is taking personal responsibility to ensure you are fully prepared. One crucial step you can take to remain prepared is to keep an emergency kit under or beside your desk or bed.
We recommend that you pack your Emergency kit to last you up to 72 hours. Here is a list of some supplies that we suggest you include in your kit:
- A Backpack or Duffel Bag
- First Aid Kit and Manual
- Critical Medications,
- Like copies of a prescription
- Bottled Water
- Flash Light with Spare Batteries
- Clothing for Emergencies
- Sturdy Shoes
- Rain-Gear
- Change of Clothes
- Extra Socks
- Sweater or Jacket
- Non-perishable Foods
- Energy/Protein Bars
- Dried Fruit
- Jerky
- Crackers
- Peanut Butter
- Blanket and/or Sleeping Bag
- Personal Hygiene Items
- Tissues
- Pre-moistened Towelettes
- Soap
- Tooth Brush and Paste
- Seal-able Plastic Bags

Having an emergency kit can help ensure you are prepared for the unexpected. This emergency kit can be used well beyond college and is also suggested for use within your vehicle if you drive on the Highway or Interstate during Winter.
