Issue/Question
After opening in August, do the residence halls close, or do students need to vacate their rooms at any time before the end of the spring semester in May?
Environment
BHSU Residence Life; BHSU Residence Halls
Cause
You would like information about hall closures and official university breaks when the residence halls are closed.
Resolution
BHSU Students retain access to their assigned residence hall room during university breaks listed below:
- Thanksgiving Break in November.
- Winter Break in December and January.
- Spring Break in March.
During these university breaks, the BHSU Residence Halls will be open, and students can remain on campus and in their assigned residence hall room. To stay during university break times, students MUST:
- Provide notice of their intent to stay 10 calendar days in advance.
- Students can submit their intent to stay by using THIS FORM.
- Students must be registered for the upcoming spring semester to remain in their room during Winter Break (December - January).
- Follow all BHSU and BOR policies and procedures. Any violation of policy could be grounds for a student to lose access to their residence hall space during a university break.
Students should be aware that the full suite of services and staffing typically available during the academic term may not be available during break periods. Dining options and other services (i.e., Student Health and Counseling Services) will be severely limited. Housing office staff will continue to assist students with additional needs as appropriate, based on availability.
