Issue/Question
After opening in August, do the residence halls close or do students need to vacate their rooms at any time before the end of the spring semester in May?
Environment
BHSU Residence Life; BHSU Residence Halls
Cause
You would like information about hall closures and official university breaks, during which the residence halls are closed.
Resolution
The BHSU Residence Halls closed during the following university breaks:
- Thanksgiving Break in November.
- Winter Break in December and January.
- Spring Break in March.
During these university breaks, the BHSU Residence Halls close, and students must vacate their rooms. Students can leave their belongings in their rooms during these break periods.
Students in Bordeaux, Heidepriem, Humbert, and Thomas who need to stay on campus during a university break may do so. Note, there is a $20.00/night charge to stay on campus during a break period. During winter break, the cost is capped at $400.00 (20 nights).
Students in Wenona Cook and the Yellow Jacket Apartments can access their room or apartment at any time during a break; these buildings do not close during university breaks.
Students must communicate with BHSU Residence Life of their intent to stay in their hall during a break. This ensures their access plans are active and that they are accounted for in an emergency.
Dining is extremely limited during university closures. The Hive, Einstein’s Bagels, and Starbucks are all closed during these times.
