Issue/Question
- What does the Instructional Design Office do at BHSU?
- What can the Instructional Design Office help me with as a Faculty member?
Resolution
The BHSU Instructional Design Office supports, enables, and equips all new, adjunct, and experienced faculty to integrate educational technology and evidence-based pedagogy to design and develop quality-enhanced active learning user-friendly face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses. The office works with faculty to develop measurable learning objectives and align them directly with the course materials, activities, and assessments. It offers one-on-one guidance and feedback in the quality assurance process of online courses.
Desire2Learn (D2L) is the official Learning Management platform. Go to D2L resources for support. If you need assistance, email id@bhsu.edu.
- Teaching in-person course(s) - one of the best practices is to keep the students engaged throughout the week with the learning materials and their classmates
- Hence, it is encouraged that faculty flip the in-person course by using Desire2Learn
- for students to submit writing assignments, participate in online discussions, complete quizzes or exams, etc.
- for instructors to share course materials, grades, news items, etc.
- An additional benefit is that it will be easier to transition to online teaching – both for students and instructors, if there is a need to do so.
- Teaching online course(s) - a well-designed, quality online course helps increase student engagement and provides a better learning environment for students and a good teaching experience.
- As you prepare to design an online course, you may use the following:
