Roku Connection Issues

Issue/Question

My Roku device won't stay connected to the BHSU-Guest network.

Environment

• Roku
• Wi-Fi
• Residence Halls
• BHSU-Guest wireless network

Cause

By default on newer devices, Roku utilizes a feature called "WiFi-Direct" that can cause issues with Roku device connectivity, as well as affect other nearby wireless devices. 

Resolution

Disable the WiFi-Direct feature.

Note: Steps will vary depending on which Roku model you are using. Older Rokus may not have this feature. 

• Disable Roku Device Connect:
  1. On the Home screen, go to Settings
  2. Select System
  3. Go to Advanced system settings
  4. Select Device connect
  5. Choose the option Disable 'Device connect'
• Disable Device Connect on Roku 3 Streaming Stick:
  1. On the Home screen, press these 10 buttons quickly:
     • HOME-HOME-HOME-HOME-HOME-FFWD-PLAY-REWIND-PLAY-FFWD
  2. Select Wireless Secret Screen
  3. Select Interference 
  4. Choose None
