Issue/Question
What can I bring with me while I live in the residence halls at BHSU?
What’s allowed and not allowed in the residence halls?
Environment
BHSU Residence Life; BHSU Residential Standards of Living
Cause
You would like information about what items you can bring and what items are prohibited in the BHSU Residence Halls.
Resolution
Residence Life’s mission is to provide a safe, supportive, and engaging environment designed to enhance your overall learning experience. To that end, we want you to bring what will make you most comfortable in your assigned space. If that means the quilt you were gifted after your graduation, bring it. If that means your PlayStation or Xbox, bring them. If that means the coffee maker that helps you get going in the morning, bring that too. If that’s the mini fridge and microwave that you bought with some graduation gifts, yep, bring those too. Bring the things that you know you’ll need to be successful, inside and outside of the classroom. Those are things we want you to have.
While we want you to be comfortable, we also need to ensure the safety and security of the others sharing the building with you. There are a few things we ask that you leave at home. They include:
- Extension cords without surge protection
- Items with an open coil heating element (toasters, toaster ovens, pizza ovens, personal space heaters, air fryers, etc.)
- Weapons, firearms, and ammunition
- Pressure cookers and Insta-pots
- Candles
- Pets
Please refer to our Packing List and the Student Handbook (starting on page 41) for a full list of prohibited items and appliance size and wattage restrictions.
