Information for New Adjunct Faculty

Resolution

  • Email: Once your hiring paperwork is complete, it will take some time for your Black Hills State University (BHSU) email to be generated. 

    • When it is ready, you will receive your email information from the Human Resources (HR) office.
    • All official communication, including with students, occurs via BHSU email.
    • Access to Email, D2L & other BHSU Resources
  • Contract:

    • Your contract will be finalized following the census date.​
    • You will receive your first month's pay automatically without a signed contract.
    • To secure your full semester compensation, a signed contract is required.
      • Expect your official contract approximately 3 weeks following the census date.
      • If there are any changes to the teaching assignment, you will be notified.
  • Textbook: Textbook Adoption

    • Before the semester begins, all requests for textbooks, e-books, and course material should be submitted to the BHSU bookstore.
    • Depending upon when you are hired, you might receive an email from the bookstore with a link to the textbook adoption page, offering several options (physical book, eBook, etc.).
      • There likely will be an eBook available that is significantly cheaper than a physical book.
        • For assistance with adding an e-book and/or courseware links to your D2L course, contact our D2L Administrator, Anne Stevens (Anne.Stevens@bhsu.edu).
    • If you have not received an email from the bookstore, email Greg (gregory.scholz@bhsu.edu), our Textbook Manager.
  • Course Syllabus: 

    • Your college Administrative Assistant will send you a previous course syllabus and the latest Academic Affairs course syllabus template.
      • If you have not received one, please email your college's Administrative Assistant. 
    • You will receive a few emails from Prasanthi Pallapu (Prasanthi.Pallapu@bhsu.edu), our Instructional Designer, with several resources.
      • If you are teaching an online course, watch for more information about the MANDATED South Dakota Board of Regents online course review process and requirements.
  • Courses in Desire2Learn (D2L): 

  • Enrollment: The course enrollment information can be found at –

  • MyBHSU/SNAP

    • MyBHSU/SNAP is a self-service secure portal that provides access to class schedules, Payroll, etc.
    • SNAP accounts are created for Faculty and Staff once payroll documentation is submitted to HR. 
    • Find the direct link under the 'Search' option on the Black Hills State University | Spearfish, SD website. 
  • Ongoing Support: Should you need additional support, please consider using these resources: 

    • JacketConnect - a searchable database of articles written for BHSU employees. You can find answers to many questions about BHSU policies and procedures there.
      • Note: Many articles require login with BHSU credentials. 
    • Instructional Design offers one-on-one support for all faculty.
    • The Center for Faculty Innovation (CFI), our center for teaching and learning, offers teaching consultations and hosts regular workshops for BHSU faculty and staff.
