Description
STFs assist faculty in integrating technology into their course delivery.
This may include:
- Working as a member of a design team to develop an entire curriculum
- Working with individual faculty members to develop collaborative curriculum across disciplines
- Working with individual faculty members to develop materials for a specific course
- Developing graphics, animations, and simulation software for use on the web or media storage devices
- Designing websites for online instruction and Internet enhanced courses
- Developing special interactive elements for web-based courses and course supplement materials
- Providing group and individual instruction to faculty on using specific software, web page design, basic computer files management, and basic techniques such as scanning a picture, editing a graphic image, or performing specialized web searches
- Introducing new applications and new technology tools to faculty
- Offering suggestions for innovative ways to integrate technology into learning environments
- Suggesting ways in which technology tools might be used in a given subject area
- Video capture and editing
- Developing faculty and departmental websites
STUDENT TECHNOLOGY FELLOWS WILL NOT BE DOING:
- Word processing for tests, course handouts, syllabi, and similar routine keyboarding functions
- Entering information or data in any form
- Preparing presentations for professional meetings, seminars, or conferences
- Entering management data in spreadsheets or databases
- Performing clerical functions for faculty or staff
QUALIFICATIONS:
Fellows will be selected on the basis of their complementary technical skills and the strength of their communication skills. Software used may include the following, but are not limited to:
- Software Applications
- Desire2Learn
- Microsoft 365 Suite
- Adobe Suite
- Content Management System Concepts
- Graphic Design Software
- IT Service Practices
- South Dakota resident
- Full-time, degree-seeking, undergraduate student
- Minimum College GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- If an entering Freshman, High School GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
- Maintain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale to stay eligible for the program
- Comfortable with computer technologies, Windows operating systems, and terminologies
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to provide efficient and courteous customer service
- Strong communication skills
- Dependable
- Good questioning and analytical skills
TERM OF POSITION AND PAY
- Fellows may participate for up to 8 semesters as an undergraduate in the STF Program
- Fellows will be expected to work an average of 11 hours per week
- Starting Wage: $15.15 per hour
REPORTING & WORK ASSIGNMENTS
STFs will report to Garrett Stevens in room 006 of the E.Y. Berry Library. Fellows may be assigned both long and short-term projects with specific faculty members and/or departments.
Most STFs will be assigned to work with the Instructional Designers, Network Computer Services, or the Coordinator of Web Development.
