Cause

Birth of a child, marriage, divorce, new employment, or child becoming too old to be on your insurance. Any change that is required to be made to your current dependents outside of the open enrollment period. 

Resolution

Life happens and sometimes that means updating your benefits outside of open enrollment. Common qualifying life events include:

  • Adoption
  • Birth of a Child
  • Legal Guardianship
  • Marriage
  • Legal Separation
  • Divorce
  • Death of Spouse or Dependent
  • Dependent or Employee Gains Eligibility Under Another Plan
  • Dependent Care FSA Change
  • Newly Eligible Dependent or Employee
  • Life Insurance Add/Drop/or Beneficiaries
  • Medicaid Eligibility
  • Medicare Eligibility
  • Overage Dependent
  • Tobacco Status Change

These changes were formerly called "Family Status Changes." They are now called "Life Events." All requests must go through the Bureau of Human Resources (BHR) website. Visit Life Events - South Dakota Bureau of Human Resources (SD BHR). Use the links on the BHR website to find information about creating a Life Event. Once you have read through the instructions, you will click on "Employee Space" and follow the step-by-step process. You will be asked to provide proof (i.e. marriage certificate, birth certificate, divorce decree, etc.) All email correspondence pertaining to your Life Event will come from noreply-cloudnotification@infor.com. Keep these for your records.
